OVERVIEW

“Modern Drum Charting for Professional Musicians” is a hands-on educational clinic designed to teach students and educators how to create fast, clear, and performance-ready drum charts used in real-world professional settings.

Today’s working drummers are expected to learn music quickly, communicate effectively in rehearsals, and perform across multiple genres with minimal preparation time. This clinic focuses on building a modern visual system that improves efficiency, clarity, and confidence in live and rehearsal environments.

CLINIC OBJECTIVES

Participants will learn how to:

  • Build professional drum charts quickly and efficiently
  • Simplify complex musical arrangements into readable visual systems
  • Improve rehearsal communication with bands and directors
  • Develop a consistent workflow for learning new music
  • Apply modern charting methods used by working professional drummers
  • Adapt chart detail depending on performance setting (worship, Broadway, touring, studio, education)

WHO THIS CLINIC IS FOR

This clinic is designed for:

  • College percussion and music performance students (18–23)
  • Professional drummers and gigging musicians
  • Music educators and ensemble directors (35–60)
  • Worship leaders and MDs
  • Anyone responsible for learning, teaching, or directing live music

CLINIC DESCRIPTION

This session bridges the gap between academic music training and real-world performance demands.

While traditional music education emphasizes reading and performance, many working drummers rely on fast, efficient charting systems that prioritize clarity, structure, and communication.

This clinic introduces a modern approach to drum charting that focuses on:

  • Visual organization over dense notation
  • Speed of preparation over over-detailing
  • Communication over complexity
  • Practical performance usability over theoretical notation systems

Participants will see real examples of how professional drummers prepare for rehearsals and performances in minutes—not hours.
